Order #49417B

Order #49417B for M12 Silver Cap Nut x 1 arrived on Oct 18, 2022. The nut that arrived was another M12-1.75 cap nut, which is still the wrong size for the rear axle.

Support Email 2

Since #49417B was still the wrong part, I sent the following email to support on Oct 18, 2022:

Hi there!

After a delivery snafu on the part of USPS, the replacement part is in-hand.

It is still the incorrect part. I'm afraid y'all sent me another M12-1.75 not. [All-caps for emphasis] M12-1.75 IS THE INCORRECT PART AND WILL NOT FIT THE EMOVE TOURING REAR AXLE. I need M12-1.5 cap nuts. (I also ordered two, and only one replacement was sent.)

Could y'all please please PLEASE double-check that I'm sent two M12-1.5 cap nuts? This is getting a bit ridiculous now. :(

About an hour later, I received the following reply:

Hey Kythera,

We sincerely apologize for that!

This might have been an oversight on our part, however, rest assured we will correct this and send you the right cap nuts.

This time, the order created will reflect two m10x1.5mm cap nuts for the EMOVE Touring.

Please reference this order number for any updates/tracking information - 49746B

If you have any other questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out!

I noticed that the above email noted two m10x1.5mm cap nuts. M10 is a smaller size than an M12 nut and absolutely will NOT fit on the rear axle. So I replied:

Hi there!

I confirm I got the order confirmation email, and that it says M10 Silver Cap Nut × 2. RED FLAG!! M10 is still not the right size cap nut. The pitch (1.5) will be correct, but the diameter will be much too small to fit on the axle. M12x1.5 is a very specific diameter and thread pitch, and both have to be correct for the cap nut to fit the axle. Before this is dispatched, is it at all possible to double or triple check the specs?

The reply from support:

Hey Kythera,

Thank you for speaking with us.

I have double-checked with our technicians, and the only 2 cap nuts that are available for the EMOVE Touring are the m10 and m12 cap nuts. The m12x1.75mm did not fit, and that is why the only other option would be to try the m10.

Please let us know once you have received it, and what the result is.

I look forward to your response!

I sent the following reply:

Oh lord. Okay. I can pretty much tell you right now it won't fit, but I'll verify it with photos and calipers once I have it in hand.

Documentation

The previous reply about M10 cap nuts bothered me enough to put on my quality assurance tester hat, and I started documenting. Once I assembled documentation, I sent this follow-up later in the evening on Oct 18, 2022 :

For documentation/record-keeping purposes, I've included three images:

1. M12vsM10.png: This composite shows the replacement nut I received today (A), which is M12-1.75. This series of photos compares A with a factory-installed nut I removed from my scooter (B), which is an M10-1.5 cap nut. Visually, B is noticeably smaller than A. Measuring the outside and inside diameter with electronic calipers, B is demonstrably smaller than A. While B has the correct thread pitch (1.5), the interior diameter (8.8mm) is too small to fit on the rear axle.

2. emovecapnut.png: This is a screenshot from the Emove Touring Screw Catalog (source). The nut labeled B in M12vsM10.png is marked 22 in the screw catalog. The nut I NEED does not have an associated part number, and is circled in blue in the screenshot.

3. RearAxle.png: This is a photo of the rear axle of my Emove Touring with no cap nut (temporary cap nut has been removed for this photo). The calipers show the diameter of the axle is 11.8mm. It is physically impossible for an M10-1.5 cap nut to fit on the axle.

When order 49746B arrives, I will take another set of photos similar to M12vsM10.png. I anticipate identical results. :(

I suspect that because the cap nut I need isn't labeled in the parts catalog, it may not be a part that is kept in stock. The technicians may be correct that M12-1.75 and M10-1.5 are the only parts *in stock* and ready to ship, but neither is the correct part. I invite them to try reproducing my issue with an Emove Touring using M12-1.75 and M10-1.5 cap nuts if they have any available to experiment with.
